What is the Wise Business card?

The Wise Business card is a multi-currency debit card that lets businesses spend directly from their Wise Business account. Payments can be made in 40+ currencies across 160+ countries, wherever Mastercard is accepted.1

Businesses can order one physical card in the name of the account holder, plus up to three virtual cards for team members at no additional cost.3 Physical cards may attract a separate fee.

The card is linked to the Wise Business account, which needs to be topped up or you can use the existing balances to make payments. If you’re spending in a currency you hold in your account, there’s no foreign exchange fee. If you don’t have the currency, Wise applies a conversion fee starting at 0.19%.2

Access to the card and multi-currency account requires a one-time account setup fee of AU$65 in Australia, which unlocks the account features including local currency account details and the three free virtual cards.2

Wise Business card: Main features

Spending with the card

The Wise Business card works anywhere Mastercard is accepted, both online and in physical stores. Card behaviour depends on whether you hold the relevant currency in your Wise Business account:

  • If you hold the currency in your account, the transaction settles at no foreign exchange charge.
  • If you don’t hold the currency, a currency conversion fee starting at 0.19% applies to the transaction2

If you need to top up your Wise account to fund the card, an account funding fee also applies.

Getting multiple cards for your team

Wise Business accounts are limited to one physical card, issued in the name of the account holder. However, virtual cards can be issued for team members added to the Wise account, with up to three virtual cards active at any time.2

Virtual cards work for online transactions and contactless payments through supported devices. The main difference from physical cards is that virtual cards don’t have a PIN.3

Security

Wise cards use 3D Secure for additional protection on online transactions. A 6-digit verification code is sent via email or SMS to confirm each transaction, adding a layer of authentication that reduces card fraud risk.1

Cashback

Wise Business does not offer cashback on card transactions in Australia.

How do Wise Business card spending limits work?

Wise Business accounts have three types of spending limits that work together to control how the card can be used:4

Account limits: The overall amount that the account and all team members combined can spend and withdraw. These are mandatory and set by the account owner or team members with permission to set spending limits.

Cardholder limits: The amount each individual team member can spend and withdraw across all their cards. These are optional for account owners and mandatory for other team members with permission to order cards. They’re set by the account owner or team members with the relevant permission.

Limits per card: The amount that can be spent and withdrawn on a specific card. These are optional and set by the team member who owns the card.

For all three types, there are two limit windows:

  • A monthly limit that refreshes on the first day of the month
  • A daily limit that refreshes each day at midnight

Alternative to Wise Business card: The World Card

The World Card is a multi-currency card from WorldFirst that lets you pay in 150+ currencies wherever Mastercard is accepted. World Account holders can apply for up to 20 World Cards at no additional cost.

The World Card is linked to the World Account, a multi-currency account from WorldFirst. Australian businesses use the World Account to open local currency accounts in 20+ currencies (including AUD, USD, GBP, EUR, CNH, SGD, JPY, NZD, HKD and CAD), collect payments from 130+ marketplaces and payment gateways like Amazon, Stripe, Etsy and PayPal, and send payments in 100+ currencies across 200+ countries and regions.
