How to become a TikTok Shop seller in Malaysia

Contents

TikTok Shop gives Malaysian businesses a way to sell through videos, LIVE shopping and creator content. Find out what it takes to set up a shop and become a TikTok Shop seller in Malaysia

Key takeaways

  • TikTok Shop lets Malaysian sellers reach customers through shoppable videos, LIVE shopping, product discovery and creator partnerships
  • Registration takes place through TikTok Shop Seller Center, with different verification requirements for individual and corporate sellers
  • TikTok Shop charges commission and transaction fees, while other costs can include platform support and shipping fees
  • The World Account by WorldFirst can help Malaysian businesses receive and hold USD from international marketplace sales such as TikTok and more

TikTok Shop is becoming a popular sales channel for Malaysian businesses looking to reach customers online. In 2026, TikTok Shop reported that almost six in 10 Malaysian users preferred LIVE shopping, while LIVE sales grew 48% year-on-year and accounted for almost a third of platform sales. The platform also reported supporting 400,000 local sellers and creators across 800,000 local products.

This guide explains how to become a TikTok Shop seller in Malaysia, covering registration requirements, setup steps, fees, shipping, cross-border selling and the use of the World Account by WorldFirst for collecting USD payouts from international sales.

What is a TikTok Shop?

TikTok Shop is TikTok’s e-commerce platform, built into the social media app where users create, watch and share short videos. TikTok Shop lets users discover and buy products through videos and LIVE content. It launched in Malaysia in 2022, allowing sellers to manage activities such as product listings, purchases, shipping and fulfillment through the platform.

Instead of relying only on shoppers searching for products, TikTok Shop uses TikTok’s interest-based content experience to put products in front of potential buyers as they browse. Products can appear through shoppable videos, livestreams and seller/creator content.

This model is called discovery commerce because the product can become part of the content itself. A creator can demonstrate an item in a video, a seller can explain its features during a LIVE session, or a shopper can encounter a product while browsing the platform. TikTok Shop therefore connects content, product discovery and checkout in one journey.

Why sell on TikTok Shop in Malaysia?

TikTok Shop gives Malaysian businesses a way to combine marketing and selling rather than treating them as separate activities. Its discovery-led model means a product can reach people through content before they actively search for it.

There is also evidence of strong local demand: TikTok reported that 97% of surveyed businesses considered TikTok an important revenue source, while 72% said it helped them reach new audiences.

For sellers, the main opportunities include:

  • Product discovery: Videos can introduce products to viewers who were not actively searching for them
  • LIVE commerce: Sellers can demonstrate products, answer questions and interact with shoppers in real time. TikTok LIVE sales in Malaysia rose 48% year-on-year in 2026
  • Local reach: Malaysian sellers can list products for customers in the domestic TikTok Shop market
  • Creator partnerships: Sellers can work with creators whose content and audiences fit their products
  • International growth: Eligible sellers can look into TikTok Shop’s cross-border opportunities for reaching customers in other supported markets

TikTok’s #JomLokal programme also supports Malaysian sellers through funding and promotional initiatives. In 2026, TikTok committed up to RM250 million to support local sellers and creators, while #JomLokal sellers recorded 140% year-on-year sales growth in June 2026.

Requirements to become a TikTok Shop seller in Malaysia

TikTok Shop requires sellers to provide valid contact details, verify their eligibility and submit the appropriate identity or business documents. The phone number or email used for registration cannot already be registered to another TikTok Shop, and sellers must reside in the country selected for their shop. For Malaysia, the current requirements include:

Individual seller

An individual seller must:

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Be a Malaysian citizen
  • Provide a Malaysian Identity Card
  • Use a personal bank account whose name matches the registered seller and identity documents

Corporation

A corporate seller must:

  • Have a business registered in Malaysia
  • Provide a business licence, registration certificate or equivalent documentation showing eligibility to sell
  • Provide identification for the company’s legal representative where required
  • Provide business bank account details matching the registered business name

For a registered business, this can include SSM documentation and the relevant business registration information. Tax registrations such as SST should be maintained where applicable. Sellers can also check TikTok Shop’s latest restricted and prohibited product policies before listing items, as some categories may require additional approval or may not be permitted.

How to set up a TikTok Shop in Malaysia: Step-by-step

TikTok Shop Seller Center is the main platform for setting up and managing the store. TikTok’s current registration process is as follows:

  1. Create a Seller Center account: Sign in to Seller Center or register using a TikTok account, email address or phone number. An Organisation Account cannot be used to create a TikTok Shop.
  2. Select Malaysia and your seller type: Choose Malaysia as the shop country and select whether the shop is for a corporation or an individual.
  3. Complete seller verification: Enter the requested business or personal information and upload the relevant documents. Individual sellers submit identity documents, while corporations provide business registration documents and identification for the legal representative.
  4. Add shop information: Enter the shop name and set up the warehouse or pickup address, contact person, postcode, phone number and return address.
  5. Submit the application: Agree to the relevant terms and submit the application. The account remains pending while TikTok reviews the documents. If the application does not pass review, TikTok sends instructions for resubmission.
  6. Link a bank account: After verification, go to Seller Center and select ‘Link Bank Account’. Enter the account name, bank name, account number and other requested details. The bank account name must match the registered individual or company name.
  7. Add products and configure fulfilment: Once the account and bank details are approved, sellers can add product listings and configure their fulfilment and shipping arrangements.
  8. Start selling: After products are published, sellers can use TikTok content, LIVE sessions and eligible creator partnerships to bring shoppers to their listings.

TikTok Shop Seller Fees in Malaysia

Commission fee

The commission is calculated from the item price after seller discounts. Rates vary by category and between Marketplace and Mall sellers. For example, the June 2026 schedule lists Marketplace rates ranging from 5.40% to 11.34% across some electronics subcategories, with different rates for Mall sellers and participants in the Bonus Extra Program.

Transaction fee

The transaction fee is currently 3.78%, including SST (sales and service tax), and applies to both local-to-local and cross-border sellers for successfully delivered orders. It is deducted from the order settlement.

Platform Support Fee

The Platform Support Fee is RM0.54 including SST per successfully delivered order. TikTok Shop provides certain waivers, including eligibility-based waivers for some new and small Marketplace sellers and selected essential categories.

Shipping and other costs

Shipping charges depend on the applicable logistics rate card. Seller-paid shipping is calculated using the higher of the seller’s chargeable weight and the logistics provider’s chargeable weight. Chargeable weight is based on the higher of actual or volumetric weight.

Reaching international audiences through TikTok Shop cross-border

For Malaysian sellers, TikTok Shop cross-border selling can provide a way to reach customers in other Southeast Asian markets without immediately setting up a separate local operation in each country. TikTok Shop’s international markets include Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam and the Philippines, although the cross-border model and eligibility can differ by market. Before expanding from Malaysia, sellers can consider:

  • Where to expand: Nearby TikTok Shop markets can be assessed first. Malaysia can also serve as a regional base for sellers looking to test demand across ASEAN
  • Cross-border eligibility: Malaysian sellers need to check whether their business, products and intended destination qualify for TikTok Shop’s current cross-border programme through Seller Center
  • Product suitability: A product that can be sold in Malaysia may still require additional documentation, labelling, safety approvals or import compliance in another ASEAN market
  • Localised selling: Listings may need to be adapted for the destination market, including language, pricing, measurements, product information and promotional content. Local creators and affiliate partners can also help make products more relevant to local audiences
  • Shipping and fulfilment: Orders may be shipped from Malaysia to customers overseas or handled through TikTok Shop’s supported cross-border logistics arrangements. Sellers need to account for delivery times, tracking, returns and customs clearance
  • Pricing and margins: International pricing needs to factor in shipping, platform fees, currency conversion, taxes, duties and potential return costs, rather than simply converting the Malaysian selling price
  • Currency management: Cross-border sales can introduce foreign-currency receipts and payments. Malaysian sellers can consider how currencies such as SGD, THB, IDR or USD are received, converted and used to pay suppliers or other business expenses
  • Market-specific demand: Consumer behaviour differs across ASEAN. For example, Indonesia and Thailand have strong live-commerce adoption, while Singapore has a higher-income consumer base. This can affect product selection, pricing and content strategy

For a Malaysian business receiving USD from international TikTok Shop sales, a USD receiving account can allow the business to hold the funds in USD rather than converting them into MYR immediately.

The World Account: built for Malaysian businesses collecting international payouts

The World Account by WorldFirst is a multi-currency account for Malaysian businesses handling international payments. For TikTok Shop sales, it can provide USD and MYR receiving accounts, allowing a business to receive funds into the currency balance.

Malaysian TikTok Shop sellers can link their World Account USD receiving account to TikTok Shop and withdraw sales proceeds in a few steps:

  1. Set up a USD receiving account: In the World Account dashboard, go to Collections > Manage accounts > Add a new Receiving Account. Select USD and provide the required account details.
  2. Get the account details: Once the receiving account is created, select ‘Details’ to view the bank information.
  3. Add it to TikTok Shop: In TikTok Seller Center, go to Finance > Payment Settings > Add payout method > Continue.
  4. Enter the bank details: Add the details exactly as shown in the World Account, including the ACH routing number and select ‘Checking account’ where required.
  5. Complete verification: Submit the details and wait for TikTok’s review. Once approved, the receiving account can be linked for eligible payouts.

Beyond USD payouts, Malaysian businesses can receive USD and MYR, hold USD and MYR balances, send payments in USD, MYR and CNH, and convert between these currencies. The account can also receive international payments from 130+ marketplaces and payment gateways, including Amazon, Shopify, Stripe and Etsy.
