How to get paid on Fiverr with a World Account in Africa

Contents

Set up your World Account to receive Amazon US, UK and Europe payouts in USD, GBP and EUR, with a step-by-step walkthrough from account creation to first payout.

Key takeaways

  • Fiverr freelancers earn in USD, but withdrawing that USD into a local African bank account usually means forced conversion into local currency on arrival, plus receiving fees
  • Fiverr’s withdrawal options include PayPal, bank transfer, and the Fiverr Revenue Card. Each has different fees and processing times
  • African freelancers can route Fiverr earnings into a World Account, using a USD receiving account as the destination
  • Once the USD earnings land in the World Account, freelancers can hold USD, convert into local currency when the rate suits, or use the balance to pay overseas expenses

For African freelancers earning through Fiverr, the marketplace itself operates in USD. But how those USD earnings actually reach the freelancer’s hands can vary a lot depending on the withdrawal method picked. Some options come with high per-transaction fees. Others convert the USD into local currency automatically, at a rate the freelancer doesn’t get to see or approve first.

This guide covers how to receive Fiverr earnings into a World Account, so USD lands as USD and the freelancer decides what happens next.

What you need to know before withdrawing

Before setting up any withdrawal method, a few Fiverr rules matter:

  • Earnings vs Fiverr Balance: Only earnings from completed orders can be withdrawn. Funds in your Fiverr Balance (from order cancellations or refunds on your own client purchases) can’t be withdrawn. They can only be refunded to the original payment method or used to place new Fiverr orders.
  • Age: You must be at least 18 to withdraw earnings directly.
  • One method per Fiverr account: A single withdrawal method can only be linked to one Fiverr account. Using the same method across multiple accounts can cause those accounts to be disabled.
  • Location restrictions: Each withdrawal method has its own country coverage. Not every method is available in every African market.

What withdrawal methods does Fiverr support

Fiverr freelancers have these main options for getting paid:

  • PayPal: Widely available, quick to set up, but comes with PayPal’s own fees and its own currency conversion rate when the funds land in a non-USD PayPal account.
  • Bank transfer: Sends funds to a linked bank account as the middle step.
  • Fiverr Revenue Card: A prepaid card for spending earnings directly.

For African freelancers who want their USD earnings to land as USD in a receiving account they control, the practical route is bank transfer, with a World Account USD receiving account as the linked destination.

Steps to get paid on Fiverr with a World Account in Africa

The World Account is a multi-currency account from WorldFirst, an international payments provider.

The account holds funds across 15+ currencies. If you also work with clients paying in EUR or GBP, or if you have overseas expenses to settle in supported currencies, the account handles both sides through the same dashboard. There are no charges for receiving funds into the World Account.

Here are the steps to setup a World Account to collect Fiverr earnings

Step 1: Open a USD receiving account in your World Account

The first step is creating the USD receiving account that will serve as the destination for Fiverr withdrawals.

  1. Log in to the World Account dashboard
  2. Go to the Collection tab
  3. Click Manage Accounts, then Add a New Receiving Account
  4. Choose USD as the currency
  5. Fill in the account details as prompted
  6. Confirm to create the account
  7. Once the account is active, click Details to see the account information

You’ll need the account number and routing number for the next step. The Account Verification Letter (AVL) can also be generated from the same page if Fiverr asks for supporting bank documentation.

Step 2: Set up bank transfer in Fiverr

  1. Sign in to Fiverr
  2. Go to My business, then Earnings
  3. Click Manage payout methods (or Withdraw balance if you already have available funds).
  4. Select Bank transfer
  5. Follow the prompts to link a bank account, using the World Account USD receiving account details from Step 1
  6. Complete the verification steps required

The name on your World Account receiving account must match the verified name on your Fiverr account. Fiverr flags mismatches and can hold up the withdrawal until the names line up.

Note the 24-hour waiting period after adding a new withdrawal method before it can actually be used.

Step 3: Withdraw and monitor

Once the withdrawal method is set up, active and verified, withdrawals happen through the Earnings page.

  1. Go to My business, then Earnings
  2. In the Available Funds section, click Withdraw balance.
  3. Choose the bank transfer method you added, and set the withdrawal amount (Fiverr allows partial withdrawals)
  4. Confirm the payout method and amount
  5. Enter the verification code Fiverr sends to your registered phone number

Fiverr allows withdrawals of up to USD 5,000 per transaction. Funds route from Fiverr through and into the World Account USD receiving account. Once they land, the balance is available in the WorldFirst dashboard to hold, convert or send onwards.

Using the World Account as your freelance finances grow

Most freelancers don’t stay on a single platform forever. Fiverr might be where you start, but direct client work, subcontracting through agencies, or listing services on other marketplaces tends to follow. Each new income source adds another USD payment that needs to land somewhere.

The World Account can serve as the single deposit point for all of those sources. Fiverr earnings, direct client invoices and payouts from other supported marketplaces and payment gateways all settle into the same USD balance. When you need to pay for software, a subcontractor or an ad campaign in another currency, the account handles outbound payments in 100+ currencies to 200+ countries and regions. And because the account holds 15+ currencies, freelancers who pick up work that pays in EUR, GBP or other supported currencies can keep those balances separate rather than converting everything into one currency on arrival

FAQs

1. How much does it cost to withdraw Fiverr earnings into a World Account?

Fiverr may each charge fees for the withdrawal, based on their published pricing. There are no fees on receiving funds into the World Account USD receiving account itself.

2. How long do Fiverr withdrawals take to arrive in the World Account?

Fiverr enforces a 24-hour waiting period after adding a new withdrawal method. Once active, the actual transfer time depends on the processing schedule. Fiverr also enforces waiting periods after other account changes, including 48 hours after updating your verified phone number.
