How to get paid from Etsy using the World Account in South Asia

Learn how to collect Etsy Payments into the World Account and settle funds in multiple local currencies

Key takeaways

  • Etsy Payments deposits shop earnings in the currency of the local bank account you add, usually USD, GBP or EUR, and the receiving account needs to match to avoid conversion at the point of deposit.
  • The World Account offers local receiving details in 15+ major currencies, so Etsy payouts land in the original currency with zero fees on incoming funds.
  • You can keep balances in the earning currency, convert at competitive rates when timing suits, or pay suppliers straight from the collected funds.
  • The World Account works across 130+ marketplaces, so a shop expanding from Etsy into Shopify, Amazon or a direct-to-consumer site through Stripe can consolidate payouts in one dashboard

On Etsy, buyers are shown listings in their local currencies and sellers can choose the currency of their payment settlement. When a payment is made, Etsy Payments converts the funds into the local currency at prevailing market exchange rate and makeup, and forwards them to the seller’s bank account to the shop’s payout schedule.

For sellers in Pakistan or Bangladesh, that settlement currency is usually USD, GBP or EUR. When those payouts land in a local bank account, the bank runs a second conversion into local currency at its own rate and charges a receiving fee. With the World Account, sellers get local receiving accounts in USD, GBP, EUR and other currencies which they can use to collect Etsy payouts in USD, GBP or EUR without forced conversions. The funds stay in your respective currency balances until you decide what to do with them.

In this guide, we take a look at how you can use the World Account to get paid on Etsy

How Etsy payouts settle in the World Account

With Etsy Payments, the payout currency is fixed by the shop’s setup and lands in whichever bank account the seller has listed in Payment Settings. The World Account is a multi-currency account from WorldFirst, a payments provider that helps businesses manage cross-border payments, and it gives sellers matching receiving accounts for each of Etsy’s main payout currencies:

  • A USD receiving account for a US shop
  • A GBP receiving account for a UK shop
  • A EUR receiving account for a shop set up in EU

Using local currency accounts means payouts settle in the original currency, with no fees on incoming funds and no automatic conversion. Sellers sourcing their products from different suppliers can use these collected funds to make direct supplier payments without any double conversions.

Steps to link an Etsy shop to the World Account

Step 1: Open a World Account

Sign up with WorldFirst and complete onboarding. Business or personal details, identity documents, and business registration paperwork (where applicable) are submitted at this stage. Verification typically takes a few business days.

Step 2: Open a receiving account in the payout currency

Once the World Account is active, log in and open a receiving account in the currency the Etsy shop pays out in. A USD-denominated shop needs a USD receiving account; a GBP shop needs a GBP receiving account; a EUR shop needs a EUR receiving account.

Inside the dashboard, head to Collection → Manage Accounts → Add a New Receiving Account and pick the currency. The generated details — account number, routing number, sort code, IBAN or BIC, depending on currency — sit under Details once the account is live.

Step 3: Add the receiving account details to Etsy

In Etsy, go to Shop Manager → Finance → Payment Settings. Pick a payout schedule (daily, weekly, biweekly or monthly), then enter the receiving account details from Step 2 in the bank account section.

A US-based USD receiving account is usually verified instantly. For receiving accounts outside the US (GBP, EUR and others), Etsy may request extra verification. Etsy’s own help centre covers those additional checks.

Step 4: Start collecting payouts

Once the receiving account is verified, Etsy will begin releasing sales proceeds into the World Account on the chosen schedule, provided the balance clears Etsy’s minimum payout threshold.

The World Account goes beyond a single shop

Etsy is often the first channel rather than the only one. Sellers scaling into Shopify, TikTok Shop, Shopee or a direct-to-consumer site through Stripe find themselves managing payouts from several platforms, each with its own payout currency.

The World Account plugs into 130+ marketplaces and payment gateways, including Amazon, AliExpress, Shopify and Stripe. Additional channels can send payouts to the same World Account, either into an existing currency balance or into a new one opened for a new market. The dashboard keeps everything in one view including inbound payouts, currency conversions, outbound supplier payments and card spend, all in the same place.
