Nick English, Co-founder, Bremont Watches

A luxury watch brand with a French-sounding name? So far, so Swiss. But Bremont is as British as the brothers – Nick and Giles English – who founded the company in 2007 as a tribute to their father Euan. A keen aviator, Euan died in a crash-landing in 1995. Nick, his co-pilot for the day, then aged 23, was pulled from the wreckage.

The Bremont name, however, is French and comes from a chance encounter that Nick and Giles had with a 78-year-old farmer and aviation enthusiast when the weather forced them into an unscheduled landing on a trip through France with their old German biplane. As for the timepieces themselves, some of the parts are imported from Switzerland but all the watches are designed and assembled at Bremont’s headquarters in Henley-on-Thames.
