Eurovision Song Contest, Stockholm, Sweden – May 14
Europe’s guilty pleasure. It’s cheesy, camp and colourful, and was watched by nearly 200 million on TV last year (most of whom were probably pretending they weren’t interested – but we know the truth!).

Glastonbury Festival, Somerset, UK – June 22-26
Ask a Brit to name a music festival and they’ll say Glasto. Kanye West and The Who headlined in 2015, with Adele and Coldplay rumoured for 2016. Tickets sold out for the 2016 show in 32 minutes. Lovers of mud will be in their element.

MontrealMontreal Jazz Festival, Montreal, Canada – June 30 – July 9
Love jazz? You’ll love the Montreal Jazz Festival, which features the smooth sounds of around 3,000 performers every year, and hundreds of concerts – most of them free to attend.

Bestival, Isle of Wight, UK – September 8-11
Everyone’s in full party mode at Bestival, as they know it could be their last summer party of the year. People get on, the fancy dress is spectacular, oh – and the music is so varied. Expect acts as diverse as The Chemical Brothers, Duran Duran, The Jacksons and Rudimental.

One of the world’s most relaxed, chilled out cities plays host to a lively dance event which turns 21 in 2016. The numbers, 5 days of conferences, 450 evening events, 2,000 artists. 350,000 clubbers.

Stereosonic, various cities, Australia – Late Nov / early Dec
Held across Australia, from Brisbane to Adelaide and Sydney to Melbourne, this is one of the country’s fastest growing music festivals. It’s a mix of electro and dance music, with headline sets from the likes of Calvin Harris, David Guetta, Tiesto and Avicii.
